WordPress & Wix migration
Move a slow WordPress or Wix site to a fast build without losing your Google rankings.
WordPress runs a huge share of the web, and static sites are having a comeback. Here is an honest comparison for small business owners, including where WordPress is still the better choice.
We build static websites, so we have a view. But WordPress is a capable platform, and the right choice depends on how your business uses its website. This guide lays out the real trade-offs so you can decide for yourself.
WordPress is a content management system. Each time someone visits a page, the server runs code, pulls content from a database and assembles the page. You log in to an admin dashboard to edit pages, and you extend the site with themes and plugins.
A static website is built ahead of time. Every page is already a finished file, so the server simply sends it. There is no database to query and no admin dashboard to break into. Changes are made by updating the source and rebuilding the site, usually in seconds.
| Typical WordPress site | Static site | |
|---|---|---|
| Speed | Can be fast, but themes, page builders and plugins often slow it down | Fast by default: pre-built pages with nothing to assemble |
| Security | Plugins, themes and the login page need regular updates to stay safe | No database or admin login on the live site, so far less to attack |
| Running costs | Hosting, plus yearly licences for premium themes and plugins | Hosting is often free or very cheap for small sites |
| Maintenance | Core, theme and plugin updates, and occasional conflicts after an update | Very little: nothing to update unless you change the site |
| Editing | Easy to edit yourself in the dashboard | Usually edited by your developer, or through a simple content editor if one is added |
| Features | Thousands of plugins for almost anything | Features are built in, or added through a service only where needed |
Neither platform ranks better on its own. Google ranks pages, not platforms. What matters is good content, clear structure, correct titles and schema, and a page that loads fast and responds quickly. Static sites make the speed part easier, which helps Core Web Vitals. The website speed guide explains how to test where you stand today.
The biggest risk in any move is losing the Google rankings your old pages have built up. A safe migration:
Done properly, the move is invisible to customers except that everything loads faster. If cost is part of the decision, our website cost guide lists the running costs to compare.
Our WordPress and Wix migration service moves your site to a fast static build with every old URL redirected.
