Ecommerce website design for small shops and wholesalers

Online shops that load fast on a phone, make products easy to find and turn browsers into orders, without a monthly pile of apps and plugins.

An ecommerce website has a harder job than a brochure site. It needs to load quickly with lots of product photos, help people find the right item, show prices and stock clearly, and get them through checkout before they change their mind. Every extra second and every confusing step costs orders.

We build online shops for small retailers and wholesalers in Singapore and Johor Bahru, using the same fast, hand-built approach as our business websites.

See it working: the Kitbox demo shop

Kitbox Wholesale is a demo build, not a real store. It is our starter for client online shops: a wholesale web shop with a product catalogue, cart and checkout flow, built on a fast static setup with a secure cloud database behind it. Open it on your phone and try adding items to the cart.

What an online shop build covers

Every shop is scoped to the business, but most include:

  • A product catalogue with categories, filters and search sized to your range.
  • Product pages with clear photos, prices, variants and stock or lead-time notes.
  • Cart and checkout designed for one-handed use on a phone.
  • Order notifications to you and confirmations to your customer.
  • WhatsApp and enquiry buttons for customers who would rather ask first.
  • Product and organisation schema, a sitemap and Search Console so products can be found.
  • The domain, code and content in your name.

Retail or wholesale?

A retail shop sells single items to the public at fixed prices. A wholesale or trade shop often needs things a normal shop does not: minimum order quantities, carton or bulk pricing, a quote request instead of instant checkout for large orders, or a catalogue only signed-in trade customers can see. Kitbox was built with the wholesale case in mind. We cover both on our retail and wholesale industry page.

Payments and orders

How you get paid shapes the build. Some businesses want card payments at checkout. Others, especially wholesalers, prefer to confirm stock and delivery first and then invoice, or take payment by bank transfer or PayNow in Singapore. In Malaysia, customers may expect online banking options. We look at how you handle orders today and recommend the simplest setup that fits, rather than forcing every shop through the same checkout.

Custom shop or a platform like Shopify?

Hosted platforms are a good fit for some businesses, especially ones that want to manage hundreds of products themselves every day or rely on a specific app. The trade-off is a monthly subscription plus app fees, and themes that can get heavy. A custom-built shop suits businesses with a focused catalogue that want speed, no monthly app bills and full ownership. We will tell you honestly which one suits you. Our guide to WordPress vs a static site covers the same trade-offs for content sites.

Getting found: SEO for online shops

Product and category pages can rank in Google for specific searches, such as a product type plus your city, but only if each page has its own useful text, clear titles and fast loading. If you also have a showroom, warehouse pickup or trade counter, a Google Business Profile and local SEO help nearby buyers find you on Maps.

Price

Online shops get a fixed quote after the free audit, because the work depends on the number of products, payment options and how orders are handled. Prices are in SGD, with RM quotes for Malaysian businesses. For comparison, our standard business websites start from S$1,200.

Ecommerce FAQ

How much does an online shop cost?

Online shops are quoted after the free audit, because the price depends on the number of products, payment options and how orders are handled. You get one fixed price in writing before work starts.

Can I see an example?

Yes. Kitbox Wholesale is our demo online shop with a catalogue, cart and checkout flow. It is a demo build, not a real store.

Do I need Shopify or WooCommerce?

Not necessarily. For some shops a hosted platform is the right call, and we will tell you if so. For many small catalogues a custom-built shop is faster and has no monthly app bills.
